Upcoming Events/Outings

Vanguard Chapter membership meetings will be held in-person at Dinosaur Hill on the second Thursday of each month, unless noted below, throughout the fall and winter. Meetings begin at 7:30pm and provide attendees an opportunity to hear about happenings within the chapter as well as around the state which impact TU’s mission of preserving and protecting coldwater fisheries. Each meeting will have a guest speaker and I am pleased to announce the following schedule for this meeting season:

2025 Events:

May 15th to the 18th – Vanguard’s annual Au Sable Riverview Resort weekend outing. Space is limited. Contact Scott Hummon at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you are interested in attending.

June 10th – Cookout and Casting Clinic. 6pm-9pm at the pavilion in Rochester City Park

June 23 – Electroshocking Phase 3 & 4. Volunteers needed. If you have never seen a fish population study done using electroshocking you should stop by to watch from shore. We will meet in the morning at the Tienken Road trail parking lot.

July 29 thru August 1 - Phase 4 Instream habitat structure installation. Volunteers needed for each day. We will be installing 61 log structures. We will meet every morning at the Tienken Road trail parking lot.

September 11th @ 6:30pm – Vanguard Chapter Fall Meeting. This year’s meeting will be held at Antoniou’s Town Square Pizza, 918 Rochester Road. All you can eat pizza, salad, bread, and pop are free! A cash bar is also available. Come join us to review the work done on Phase 4 this summer. We will also outline the proposed plan for the next habitat installation work in Paint Creek in 2027 (Phase 5). We always welcome hearing new ideas and suggestions from members at this annual event. Your input matters and helps us move the chapter forward.
